ADRIAN CROWLEY'‘The Watchful Eye Of The Stars’’
Adrian and John first discussed working together in the late 90’s. Twenty years and eight albums later they finally made it in to the studio. The resulting album ‘The Watchful Eye Of The Stars’ is due for release through Chemikal Underground on April 30th. Produced by John & recorded by Jim Barr (who also played stand up bass) at J&J Studios, mixed by John with Ali Chant at Playpen. The single ‘Northbound Stowaway’ is out now – here’s the video : Recorded by Joe Jones at Rockfield in Monmouth. Mixed by John at Invada in Bristol. (Mixes engineered by Stu Matthews). The first single from the album, Scratchcard Lanyard spent five weeks on the BBC6 Music A list at the beginning of the year & the brilliant video can be seen here :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PuqlOTyJt0 The album is due for release through 4AD on April 2nd, and Dry Cleaning are playing live on the Later With Jools show on Friday March 12th. ‘Hammer It’ by French band King Biscuit. Produced by John ParishDue to obvious reasons nearly all albums recorded summer 2019 on have had their release dates delayed. On album that did slip in under the line was ‘Hammer It’ by French band King Biscuit. Produced by John, recorded by Oliver Baldwin at J&J Studios, Bristol and mixed by Ali Chant at Playpen Studios, Bristol.
Here is the video for the song ‘Lay Down’ : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXM8dF-a0Hk New Production: Raphelson ‘Fallen Idols’John has worked again with Raphelson on his new album ‘Fallen Idols’ released May 8th 2020.
John & Raphelson first worked together in Tucson in 2003 when his band Magic Rays came over to record their On The Shoreline album at Wavelab Studio. John also mixed Raphelson’s first solo album ‘Everything was story/Story was everything’ in 2012. John’s creative partnership with Belgian director Patrice Toye continues with the release of her fourth feature film ‘Tench’ (original Flemish title ‘Muidhond’). Cinema release has been disrupted by the Covid crisis, but the film will be screened at the New Zealand International Film Festival (July 24- August 2) Tench is another taboo busting film from Toye – see here for a resume of her career to date: https://cinea.be/tender-taboos-the-cinema-of-patrice-toye/ One of the many negative side effects of the coronavirus crisis is that in dominating the news cycle , other issues and stories are being lost.
Rokia Traoré, the internationally renowned Malian singer has been on hunger strike in a French prison for more than a week. As the producer of Rokia’s last two albums we have worked closely together and become friends, and I am deeply concerned by the reports of her deteriorating health. She is involved in a custody battle over the young daughter she has with her Belgian former partner. I do not know the details of the case and would normally accept this as a matter for a court of law to decide. In the this instance however there are two courts – the Malian and the Belgian – and they appear to have drawn different conclusions. It is a messy situation . What is clear to me however is that Rokia Traoré should not be being held in jail – particularly at this time when prisons are breeding grounds for the coronavirus. There are many high profile musicians trying to bring attention to her case – Salif Keita, Angélique Kidjo, Damon Albarn - but it is a struggle to be heard over the coronavirus calamity. I add my voice in calling upon the French government to immediately release her, and to take steps to enable the competing courts to find agreement. John Parish 23rd March 2020 |
